The Department of Transportation on Wednesday said the Sangley Airport in Cavite is currently “95 percent complete” and on track for its scheduled operational dry run on October 29.
Some of the completed works include the asphalt overlay, clearing of the runway, reblocking of concrete pavement, installation of a drainage system and streetlights, landscaping, and the construction of the access road. Some of the remaining tasks are the painting of parking bay markings and finishing works for two hangars, the powerhouse, and the cistern tank.
The DOTr added that path indicator lights and the outfitting of the pre-departure lounge with four new chairs will be completed by Friday.
In June, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade ordered the Sangley Airport contractor Unimaster Conglomeration Inc. to “work 24/7” in order to meet the November 2019 deadline set by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Philippine Airlines, AirAsia, and Cebu Pacific were some of the airlines that have agreed to use the new airport upon its completion.
