When we talk about Bataan, we often think of war and history. But did you know that it is also rich with nature and eco-tourism? Let me tell you why
Known for being a historic place in the Philippines, Bataan witnessed some of the important major events in the country's history such as the Siege of Bataan and the Bataan Death March.
Today, the province is also known for having beautiful tourist spots like the mountains in Mariveles and the beaches in Morong.
On this guide, I will tell you about this eco-friendly resort I have found in Morong, Bataan!
Playa La Caleta
Playa La Caleta (which means “Beach Cove”) or PLC for short, is an eco-tourism resort with a 100-hectare cove. Located in the municipality of Morong in the province of Bataan, it has a 1-kilometer white sand beach at the front, lush mountain jungle/forest in the middle and 3 waterfalls at the back. On the left side of the cove is also a 1-hectare islet, called Miguelito Island.

PLC accommodations include ocean-view beach cottages & gazebos, air-conditioned beach rooms and camping tents.
For day trip guests, picnic tables are available. Outdoor activities include hiking trails, mountain biking, kite flying, beach volleyball, football and badminton.

Water sport activities include kayaking, stand-up paddling, 75-foot water slide, snorkeling, cliff jumping, windsurfing, skim boarding, body boarding and surfing. The Scarborough restaurant, Shark bar and Coconut cafe are also available for food & beverage.
PLC advocates sustainable tourism through its monthly beach cleanups, eco-camps, eco-brick program, ban on single use plastic, tree planting, marine turtle, giant clam & resident eagle conservation efforts.
MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
It was weekend when my friends and I went at Playa La Caleta. We traveled from Manila so we took advantage of the fastest way to Bataan that is available today - an hour ferry ride with 1Bataan Integrated Transport System. Read the directions on traveling to Playa La Caleta on the guide I wrote below.
We planned to spent a night here so we were suggested their newly added air-conditioned rooms. (see room rates below)
The whole resort is wide as it covers not only the kilometer long beach cove but the trails from the back of where you can hike to. It features murals on their facilities such as the shower room and the rental rooms from different artists.
The whole cove is covered with palm trees and different plants are around the area. You won't lose a spot for your Instagram feed!
During day time, most of the electricity is not on. At 6pm, they started to light up the whole resort and have our rooms airconditioned.
In the morning, we had our free breakfast at the Scarborough Restaurant (we also had our dinner here) and just enjoyed the view from different angles of the cove. Not long enough, we did visit the Miguelito Island and had some photos there!
Overall, my weekend here was one of the best memories I will bring in life. I love how we disconnected from the social media world. We talked and laugh. We just feel the beach life for a short while.

MIGUELITO ISLAND
Miguelito Island as seen from Playa La Caleta |
This islet on the left side of the cove can accessed via walking or a short boat ride (please ask the staff for assistance).
This 1 hectare islet is full of beautiful rock formations and natural pool. We roam around the area and took some photos around 9am.
I love the view here. You can see the horizon of West Philippine Sea and the cove itself.
