The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) unveils for the first time a historical marker, a larger than life sculpture of former President Ferdinand Marcos in his hometown Batac City on Sunday.
The statue locally known as, “Daytoy ti Bannawag monument” had long been at the Batac City park but this was repositioned on a four-meter pedestal at the newly-redesigned city square in time for the centenary celebration of the birth of Marcos.

Ilocos Norte Tourism Officer Ianree Raquel said Friday the bronze monument has been attributed to Italian sculptor Giuseppe Marinucci.
“This is the first standard issue government marker that says he’s a former president and soldier,” Raquel said, citing that the NHCP is mandated to commemorate historical milestones such as the centenary birth celebration of the late strongman.
NHCP Chairperson Dr. Rene Escalante led to grace the formal turnover of the marker to the provincial government.
