St. William's Cathedral is known for having the famous "Sinking Bell Tower" in Laoag City.

This 45-meter bell tower in Ilocos Norte was built by the Augustinians in 1612 and was once one of the tallest bell tower in the Philippines back then. Although it belongs to St. Williams Cathedral, this structure is 85 meters away from the church. Funny thing, isn't it?

The tower was built duing the Spanish era in the Philippines. It said to be "sinking" since the tower is so heavy and is built on sandy foundations that it has been consistently sinking into the ground.

Wayback its young days, locals said that the entrance of the tower can be entered without touching anyone's head to the door.

Today, you have to bend over just for you to get in to the tower. Despite of this, the tower continue to ring its bell all over Laoag proper.

The tower is actually located along the main roads in town proper of Laoag where main establishments like the church, city hall, fastfood and supermarkets are located around.

It was night time when I first visited the bell. Me and my co-workers had a little stroll around the town proper and had some streetfood at a nearby food market.

It was dark and a bit cold that night but the city keeps the place alive even late night.

It just feels so normal yet I thought this tower is still special since it witnessed a part of our history here in Laoag.

If you have plenty of time, you can go here and drop by for a few minutes, take some selfies and appreciate its story. If you happen to visit this place, share me your photos on my Facebook page. :)
